Our base of operation is at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center in association with the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC). Secondary teaching sites are area nursing homes, the hospitals and clinics of the University of Utah, and Intermountain Health Care. |
University of Utah Medical Center
The Geriatrics Clinic specializes in the care and treatment of the elderly population. Our clinic offers outpatient care, treatment, and consultation services by nationally known Geriatric providers. Clinic staff are available to answer questions, schedule referrals, and provide personalized support to you or your loved one regarding treatment and care. Our medical assistants are highly experienced in the care of elderly patients, and will work closely with you to make sure you receive excellent care during your visit.
VA Medical Center
The Salt Lake VAMC Blue Clinic consists of Internal Medicine resident continuity clinics, faculty clinics, geriatric clinics, urgent care, and mental health clinics. We provide Primary Care for a diverse group of veterans of all ages, men and women. We also provide consultation regarding cognitive decline/function, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, management of atrial fibrillation, and preoperative assessment. The Blue Clinic provides the major portion of Internal Medicine resident education on an out patient basis and it's attendings have received multiple awards in recognition of this teaching effort.
VA Salt Lake City GRECC
The Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Salt Lake City VA Hospital maintains a large staff of over 13 M.D. and Ph.D. investigators and clinicians, and oversees the comprehensive geriatric evaluation clinic, a comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment service focusing on geriatric health maintenance and cognitive disorders. The GRECC also medically directs the Hospital Based Home Care Unit at the VA Hospital, as well as the Interdisciplinary Team Teaching Program.
LDSH (IMC) Main Entrance
Intermountain Healthcare is an integrated, nor for profit leader in developing and implementing innovative models of care that have been shown to improve quality of care for Seniors (Care Management Plus). The LDS Hospital Geriatrics Clinic interdisciplinary team applies best practices to provide patient-centered, coordinated care for older adults with multiple conditions and complex social needs. The Clinic also includes expert care for patients with dementia in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and counseling. The University of Utah and Intermountain Healthcare are academic partners in sponsoring Internal Medicine and a number of other Residency Programs and Fellowships.
Brighton Gardens
Brighton Gardens is a Sunrise Senior Living Facility with a 45-bed skilled nursing unit as well as assisted living units. The skilled nursing unit provides temporary rehabilitation services as well as long-term care. This clinical setting provides fellows with a broad educational experience in caring for older adults who are transitioning from the hospital back to home and other seniors who have persistent needs over a longer period of time.
