In cooperation with the Salt Lake GRECC, the Division of Geriatrics offers a yearly Rocky Mountain Geriatric Conference focused on the most current Geriatric Issue.

7th Annual Rocky Mountain Geriatric Conference September 2009 held in Colorado

More Information Forthcoming

The conference is specifically designed to address the communication and collaboration issues associated with improving caregiver support.  By examining the knowledge base provided by the research/literature and translating those findings into practice, we have the best chance of meeting caregiver needs.

Providing effective support for caregivers is a pervasive and difficult problem for clinicians caring for chronically ill patients in our aging society.  This conference brings together prominent caregiver researchers and expert clinicians with the goals of improving caregiver and patient outcomes and enhancing provider satisfaction and effectiveness.  The final day of the conference will present methods for incorporating these findings into local QI activities.

Topics will focus on understanding caregivers' decision-making processes, as well as improving communication and collaboration among the caregiver, the patient, and the interdisciplinary health care team.  Assessment and intervention tools will be presented to enhance the clinician's ability to provide emotional and informational support to struggling caregivers.

Content is appropriate for physicians, physician assistants, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other medical personnel working with caregivers.
